The American automaker stretched the 300's life well beyond expectations. Originally introduced in 2005, the full-size sedan remained in the lineup until 2023 — a nearly 20-year run. Over the years, the big American sedan received a few updates and improvements, but it essentially remained the same car. Unsurprisingly, sales gradually declined, eventually leading to its retirement — along with the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger, two vehicles that shared its platform.
Until recently, most believed the Chrysler 300 was gone for good. But it now seems the brand might not be done with it just yet. According to recent rumors, the nameplate could be making a comeback in the Chrysler lineup over the next few years. Some sources suggest that the company plans to put the Halcyon Concept, or a vehicle heavily inspired by it, into production. Using the "300" name would simply help win over longtime Chrysler fans.
It’s no coincidence that the Halcyon Concept looks like a modern-day Chrysler 300 — it’s built on the same platform as the new Dodge Charger EV.
Here’s where things get interesting: on the mechanical side. As you may know, Stellantis — Chrysler’s parent company — recently shifted its stance on large-displacement gasoline engines. Some rumors even suggest that the new Dodge Charger might get one or more Hemi V8 options. See where this is going?
At this point, we’re clearly in speculation territory. However, if Chrysler does decide to bring back the 300 based on the Halcyon Concept — itself inspired by the Charger EV — we could very well see not only a new electric sedan, but also a gas-powered Chrysler 300. And if we’re really lucky, it just might be powered by a massive V8 once again.
